In a recent statement, Karl Etta Eyong declared that he is ready to answer the call of the Cameroon national team should Marc Brys reach out.
Karl Etta Eyong's absence from the latest Cameroon squad list announced by head coach Marc Brys raised some eyebrows. The forward, who has just transferred from Villarreal to Levante, is enjoying a standout start to the season in La Liga, having scored once and provided two assists in just three matches. Hours after the defeat to Cape Verde (1-0), media outlet CFOOT published comments from the young talent. "Playing for Cameroon is a major goal for me, but for now my priority is to settle in at Levante and give my best. If I perform well, opportunities will come naturally," the 21-year-old reportedly told journalists.
Following these remarks, Karl Etta Eyong's entourage responded, issuing a denial through a statement sent to Afrik-Foot media. "Contrary to circulating reports, Karl Etta Eyong has never declined a call-up. To this day, he has not received any official feedback from the technical staff, but he remains fully available and committed to defending the colors of the Indomitable Lions. At just 21, the striker continues his development in Spain and wishes that any unnecessary controversy would end so that everyone can focus on what matters: the pitch and the success of the national team," his camp stated.
"I have never refused Cameroon. I have never made such statements. Playing for Cameroon has always been and remains a major objective for me. I am proud of my roots and am ready to answer the coach’s call at any time," Karl added.
