From the first steps at Campus PSG to the preseason tour of Australia, via an exceptional run in the Women’s Champions League and, above all, triumph in the Coupe de France, relive all the joy and emotions of an outstanding 2024 for the Paris Saint-Germain Women's team.
On 3 January this year, the Paris Saint-Germain women's section kicked off 2024 with a major event as they moved into the PSG Campus. In the presence of Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the Parisian coaching staff and players discovered this world class, state of the art working environment, symbolising the start of a new era for the Rouge et Bleu.
After a tricky start in a very tough group, Les Parisiennes went into 2024 with their backs against the wall on the European stage. But after back to back wins over AS Roma and a 3-1 win over Ajax Amsterdam at the Parc des Princes, the Parisians finally booked their place in the knockout stages of the competition in the final group game against Bayern Munich. In a crazy scenario, the Parisians went from being eliminated to top of the group, thanks to a last-gasp equaliser, 2-2!
In the quarter-finals, Paris took on BK Häcken, an opponent they overcame in style with a 2-1 victory in Sweden, before a 3-0 demonstration at the Parc des Princes in the return leg. The result meant that the club from the French capital were qualified for the semi-finals of Europe’s most prestigious club competition, where they faced eternal rivals Olympique Lyonnais.
Les Rouge et Bleu fought courageously, going down 3-2 at Groupama Stadium after leading until the 80th minute, before narrowly losing the return leg 2-1. It was an epic end to a spirited and spectacular continental campaign that had thrilled us all.
After wins over CPB Bréquigny Rennes (0-4), AS Saint-Étienne (2-1) and Puy Foot 43 (0-4) and an epic semi-final win over Paris FC (3-3, 3-4 on penalties), Paris Saint-Germain were back in the Women's Coupe de France final. But this time, their opponent was not OL, but FC Fleury 91. The final was a tense and competitive affair in which Paris found themselves a player down shortly after the hour mark.
But a courageous display, at Montpellier’s Stade de La Mosson, culminated when Lieke Martens van Leer scored the only goal of the game to win the 2024 Coupe de France by the narrowest of margins, 1-0. A 4th Coupe de France crown in the club’s history!
On 24 August, the Paris Saint-Germain Women’s team headed Down Under to Australia for an exceptional summer tour in preparation for the 2024-25 season. A host of activities awaited the players from the capital club, who discovered a new country and, above all, new fans. But Fabrice Abriel's team were not there just as tourists.
Determined to make their mark on the pitch, the team defeated West Ham 1-0 and Manchester City by the same scoreline to win Perth International Cup and kick off the new season in the best possible manner.
Now it's time to look ahead to 2025 and a second half of a season that we hope will once again holds plenty of joy and excitement in store for Les Parisiennes...
