CAN 2025 group stage: Foot-Africa’s best eleven

CAN 2025 – group stage: Foot-Africa’s team of the tournament
As the first round wraps up and the high-stakes knockout phase races towards us, the Foot-Africa editorial team unveils its team of the group stage for CAN 2025.
Mohamed El Shenawy (Egypt): A true leader in the box, decisive when his team is under pressure: a classic tournament goalkeeper, able to "freeze" a game when the group stage heats up.
Defence
Aubrey Modiba (South Africa) – left back: Work rate and discipline: reliable in building from the back, always stretching the play without leaving gaps behind.
Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso) – center back: Rock solid in central defence, invaluable in managing the game: 2 matches, 1 yellow card.
Axel Tuanzebe (DR Congo) – center back: Composed in challenges and reading of the game: 2 matches, minimal errors, a real "Swiss Army knife" in a flexible backline.
Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) – right back:
Midfield:
Carlos Baleba (Cameroon): Ball recovery, tireless runs, always pushing forward: the engine that keeps the team ticking, capable of breaking lines with a single touch.
Brahim Díaz (Morocco): The X-factor: a constant presence in the danger zone.
Ibrahim Maza (Algeria): A modern playmaker: combining short link-up play and bursts of acceleration, he’s given Algeria a more direct, vertical edge.
