The final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco continues to have consequences far beyond the pitch. Eighteen Senegalese fans remain in custody following incidents that occurred on the sidelines of the match, and their legal situation is now fueling growing tension.

According to their lawyer, Patrick Kabou, these supporters began a hunger strike on Friday, protesting the lack of clear explanations regarding the charges against them. They say they have been waiting "since January 18 to find out what they are accused of," and highlight that the interrogations were conducted "in French and Arabic," while they "only understand Wolof."

“Since we are being denied our right to justice, we have decided from today (Friday) to begin a continuous fast in prayer and contemplation.”

Charged with "hooliganism," their trial is set to resume on February 12.
