According to a report from Foot Mercato, Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, has handed in his resignation to the country’s football association. This comes after the World Cup semi-finalists were defeated in a dramatic AFCON final against Senegal.
The manager has informed the Moroccan FA of his wish to step down from his current post, but it remains to be seen if the country’s leading footballing body will be willing to accept his resignation. Regragui has had tremendous success with Morocco, taking them to a World Cup semi-final and AFCON final.
The former Wydad Casablanca head coach is the most successful Moroccan international head coach in history and was one penalty away from winning his homeland’s first international trophy since 1976. Nevertheless, his future with the Atlas Lions remains in doubt, and the Moroccan FA will need to make a decision quickly with the World Cup fast approaching.
