Pape Thiaw has announced his list of call-ups for the Africa Cup of Nations – CAN 2025. A squad list that features some notable omissions.

While Ilay Camara, Chérif Ndiaye, and Boulaye Dia are making their return for the tournament, Mamadou Lamine Camara, Abdou Diallo, and Rassoul Ndiaye are left out.

Here are the three big absentees from the Lions of Teranga:

Mamadou Lamine Camara

A regular in recent squads, Mamadou Lamine Camara has not been selected this time. The RS Berkane midfielder is among the most notable absentees, especially as he was eager to play the tournament “at home” in Morocco.

Abdou Diallo

Despite his vast experience, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations champion has not been called up by Pape Thiaw. His absence is mainly due to inconsistent playing time at club level, as well as fierce competition in defense from Kalidou Koulibaly, Moussa Niakhaté, Abdoulaye Seck, and El Hadji Malick Diouf.

Rassoul Ndiaye

Called up last November to cover for a spate of absences, Rassoul Ndiaye is now left out due to the return of several regulars in midfield. Despite his strong form with Le Havre, he misses out on a spot—an unfortunate gamble that didn’t pay off.
