Standard Sport understands that while a deal is not yet complete, West Ham are closing in on bringing Mukasa to the London Stadium on a straight loan with no buy option.

The 18-year-old is set to become the latest midfield signing through the door following the arrival of Arne Engels from Celtic for a fee that could reach £25million if all add-ons are met.

Mukasa is a highly rated member of City’s famed academy and spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City, where he got two goals and three assists in 15 Championship appearances.

He also made his senior debut for City last season, making six appearances in total for the eight-time Premier League champions.

A versatile player, Mukasa can play as an attacking midfielder, out wide on the right, or as a centre forward.

An FA Youth Cup winner, Mukasa has long been considered one of the brightest talents in City’s academy and produced 42 goal involvements in 41 appearances for the club’s Under-18s team in the 2024/25 season.

West Ham have been in the market for midfield reinforcements this summer following the departures of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85m and academy product Freddie Potts to Belgian side Club Brugge.

Mexican international Edson Alvarez is also expected to leave and has interest from a number of clubs in Europe.

Real Sociedad are reportedly in advanced talks to sign the 28-year-old on loan, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
