This Thursday, the Royal Cabinet of Morocco broke its silence with an official press release. The statement addresses CAN 2025 just days after Morocco’s chaotic 1-0 loss to Senegal in the final.

“At the conclusion of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, passionately hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, wishes to express His gratitude to all members of the Nation who contributed admirably to the resounding success of this magnificent event. His Majesty especially congratulates every citizen across the Kingdom’s cities for their efforts and thanks each individual for their splendid contribution to this historic achievement, recognized and praised worldwide. The Sovereign extends his compliments to the millions of Moroccans—women, men, and children—who consistently supported their national team in exemplary fashion, each in their own way. Today, the team is ranked as the 8th best in the world—a remarkable result born from a deliberate, high-level sporting and infrastructure policy, and from the patriotic choice made by talented children of Moroccans abroad to wear the national jersey and defend its colors with pride and brilliance.”, the King began in his statement.

He continued with these words: “This edition of the continental competition will go down in history, for beyond its outstanding sporting results, it has showcased the qualitative leap Morocco has made on the road to development and progress—fruit of a long-term vision and a unique, high-performing Moroccan model that places citizens at the heart of every ambition. Even though this grand football celebration hosted by the Kingdom was sadly marred by the unfortunate events in the final minutes of the match between Morocco and Senegal—when regrettable incidents and highly deplorable behavior occurred—once the emotions subside, inter-African brotherhood will naturally prevail again. This Moroccan success is also an African success. Morocco remains proud to have offered, on its soil, a month of popular joy and sporting emotion, and to have contributed to the growth and prestige of Africa and its football. Furthermore, in the face of denigration and certain attempts at discredit, His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, remains convinced that hostile intentions will never succeed, that the Moroccan people know how to distinguish right from wrong, and will not be drawn into bitterness or discord. Nothing can undermine the closeness cultivated over centuries between our African peoples, nor the fruitful cooperation built with other countries of the Continent and strengthened by ever more ambitious partnerships. The Kingdom of Morocco is and will remain a great African nation, true to the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity, and respect it has always shown towards its Continent. In line with the Sovereign’s enlightened Vision, Morocco will continue its determined and unwavering commitment to a united and prosperous Africa, notably through the mutual sharing of its experiences, expertise, and know-how.”
