It’s a sad truth that Chelsea tickets weren’t as hard to come by as they usually are last year.

The combination of a team that were really bad and a fanbase that were really unhappy meant plenty of games where Stamford Bridge wasn’t close to full capacity.

How quickly things change. Now the Blues are increasingly looking back to their best, and those empty seats have filled up fast.

It’s not just a question of results – the Blues have won two and lost one in the league – it’s about feeling. Last season everything felt so hopeless. It was clear for a while that this team weren’t going to win anything – the problem was that any fan paying to go and see them also knew they likely weren’t going to get a good performance either.

Under Enzo Maresca the football was turgid; barely tolerable even when it was bringing wins. Under Liam Rosenior the players effectively gave up, making for an even more frustrating viewing experience. All in all it was a nightmare year, and one we’re happy to have behind us.

Now things are really looking up. Xabi Alonso has brought belief back, and his team are playing exciting football. At the moment, with Moises Caicedo out, they’re playing effectively without a midfield. It’s not always pretty or complicated, but it gets the exciting attacker players at the manager’s disposal into position to do what they do best.

Interestingly, the Blues have had less possession than their opponents in all their Premier League games so far. But fans would much rather have that than Maresca-style sterile domination of the ball. End to end beats side to side every time.

With a little more refinement, it could end up being some of the best stuff we’ve seen played at Stamford Bridge in years. The first choice front three have an amazing understanding already. If the defenders can reach something similar, this will be more than just an entertaining team, it will be a really good one.

A Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer attacking trio is about as exciting as you get. When you consider you then have the likes of Estevao to come off the bench, things get even juicier. Soon Marco Palestra will be fit to maraud down the flank too.

So if you want to come see the Blues this season, don’t hesitate – get those tickets before they’re all gone.
