Christine Sinclair has confirmed plans to bring the curtain down on a record-breaking spell as Canada captain.

The forward became her country’s leading all-time goal scorer and appearance holder in both the men’s and women’s game during a 24-year career.

Sinclair won nine honours with the national team including a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but is now set to bow out by the end of 2023.

“Very few players can lace up their boots and transcend a sport both in this country and globally,” said CANWNT head coach Beverly Priestman.

“Christine has done just that — both as a player and a person. She is known and admired by all Canadians and has been pivotal in every single country stopping moment.”

Sinclair’s farewell tour is set to begin with Canada’s two-match home series against Brazil on 28 and 31 October in Montreal and Halifax respectively.

The prolific forward has announced that she will play one more season with the Portland Thorns in The NWSL.
