Canada Soccer have appeal over points deduction dismissed | OneFootball

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Ad hoc division for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has dismissed Canada Soccer’s appeal against a six-point deduction handed to its women’s team.

The points deduction was handed down after Canada were caught spying on a New Zealand training session before the two teams met on 25 July.

Coach Bev Priestman was also banned from the sport for a year and sent home from the games, with CSA officials Joseph Lombardi and Jasmine Mander also suspended, and the Association handed a £175,720 fine.

But a statement from the CAS on Wednesday confirmed that the appeal has been dismissed and the points deduction upheld.

The 2021 Gold Medallists play their third Group A match against Colombia later on Wednesday, having already beaten New Zealand and France, both 2-1.

They still have a slim hope of qualifying if New Zealand were to beat France, and goal difference were to work in Canada’s favour.
