FC Barcelona have had quite some eventful last few days in the transfer market, as they completed several operations. One of these operations that will most excite the Blaugrana fans is that of the signing of the Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez.

Meanwhile, they have also completed some exit operations, and the most notable of these has been the transfer of the forward Ferran Torres to the Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain. The Catalans got €50 million for the Spaniard, and this has been a rather good piece of business for them economically as the player had only one year left on his contract.

However, his departure leaves Barcelona without a natural first team center-forward, as Robert Lewandowski had also left at the end of the last season and there has been no signing so far to replace the Pole.

Furthermore, Ferran himself had been an important part of the team for the last two seasons, and as SPORT has reported, the former Valencia and Real Madrid goalkeeper Santiago Canizares criticized Barcelona for selling him.

The Spanish commentator believed the Catalans had sold a player who was coming into the best form of his career:

“He’s a boy who comes from a small town in Valencia, moves to England, struggles to adapt, obviously, in a highly competitive team at that time, where he had no place, and whenever he played, he played without confidence.”

“Barcelona signed him intelligently, but he also had trouble adapting to Barcelona. He eventually adapted, he eventually became useful, he is at the best moment of his career, he scored the goal in the final, and now is when you sell him. It’s the other way around.”

Although Canizares agreed that the Blaugranes have got a good sum for him, he still believed it was not enough for a goalscorer in today’s market:

“You’re not giving him away, because €50 million is not a gift, but for €50 million, a goalscoring forward, go into the market and see what’s available for that money.”

There is no doubt that Ferran Torres’ departure leaves the Barcelona squad quite short in the center-forward position. However, the player himself seemed keen to join PSG, and it remains now for Deco and his department to provide Hansi Flick with another top-class striker to eliminate this glaring gap in the attacking line.
