According to Superdeporte, Carlos Corberán says Valencia urgently need a centre-back and is hopeful of an arrival within days. He spoke before the Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Burgos. He also noted that Umar Sadiq has already featured in the last league match against Elche.
Valencia have up to three active options for the role, including the Dutch defender Justin de Haas of Famalicao and the Swiss centre-back Aurèle Amenda. Corberán wants further additions beyond the centre-back and the striker.
Asked if the deal could be wrapped up before Sunday’s trip to Getafe, he said he did not know. He reiterated the urgency created by Mouctar Diakhaby’s injury and said the situation had not changed.
He indicated Valencia have one registration slot available and that a second is being fast-tracked because Diakhaby will not play this season. That, he suggested, gives scope to add more than one player without outgoings.
Corberán said he is not handling the fine details, adding that a transfer depends on agreement between the buying club, the selling club and the player. He stressed that work is ongoing to bring in a centre-back.
Beyond that, he said the sporting department is pursuing more than one reinforcement and prefers to keep specifics under wraps during the window. He outlined a profile of players with quality, commitment, personality and bravery, aware of the club’s difficulties and demands, to help pull Valencia out of the relegation places.
