The Ghana FA confirmed on Thursday that 73-year-old Portuguese Carlos Queiroz has left his role as Ghana head coach for the second time this year, by mutual consent.

The decision followed consecutive 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers defeats, 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4-2 to the Gambia.

Discussions were held in a spirit of mutual respect and, while not an easy decision, ending the relationship was judged the most appropriate step in the circumstances, with the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football placed first.

Queiroz was appointed in April to prepare for the World Cup, where Ghana exited in the round of 32. He announced his departure after the tournament, then returned in September following an agreement between the parties.

He has now departed again, wishing the national team and supporters well and urging them to believe in, protect and support the players.
