Carlos Queiroz is no longer the head coach of Ghana. The Portuguese coach, 73, has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Ghana Football Association.
In a farewell message, the experienced manager explained the reasons behind his departure and reflected on his time in charge of the Black Stars.
"After discussions conducted in a spirit of mutual respect, the Ghana Football Association and I have mutually agreed to terminate the service contract that governed my role as head coach of Ghana’s national team," he began.
"This was not an easy decision, but both parties agreed that, given the current circumstances, bringing our professional relationship to an end was the most appropriate course of action, putting Ghana’s interests above all else," he added.
Carlos Queiroz also thanked the opportunity and highlighted the objectives with which he embraced the project.
"It was an honour to serve Ghana. I thank the Ghana Football Association and its president for their trust and for the opportunity to lead a nation with such pride in football. I came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and support the development of the country’s talent."
"Despite our commitment and effort, the necessary conditions were not fully in place; this, together with our recent performances, led us to the decision to end this journey," he said.
The coach also extended his gratitude to the technical staff who accompanied him since the preparation for the 2026 World Cup and addressed the Ghanaian people themselves.
"I leave with respect, gratitude and pride. Thank you for the passion, the support and the affection. I will always carry Ghana with me, with respect and affection. Ghana comes first. The Black Stars come first. Ghanaian football comes first. Thank you, Ghana," he concluded.
Queiroz first took charge of the African national team in April this year and reached the round of 16 at the World Cup. After the tournament, the Portuguese coach had already sent a farewell message, but he was eventually reappointed as head coach at the start of last month. In total, he recorded one win, two draws and five defeats.
