Carlos Vinicius, Grêmio’s leading scorer this year, is on his longest barren run for the club with seven games without a goal.

According to Globo.com, he gets another chance to end it on Sunday at the Arena against bottom side Chapecoense in round 25.

His last Grêmio goal came in the 2-1 defeat at Mirassol on 17 July. Since then he has played 476 minutes against Fluminense, Mirassol twice, São Paulo, Atlético-MG, Bragantino and Inter without scoring.

He was benched in the loss to Bragantino last Sunday, with Braithwaite starting, then recalled for Thursday’s Gre-Nal at Beira-Rio. He had one attempt and was replaced 11 minutes into the second half. He was also booked near the break after an on-field row, and was involved in a contentious incident with Bruno Gomes.

In 2026 he has 18 goals and two assists in 42 appearances, and remains the team’s outright top scorer, 10 clear of Amuzu on eight.

Grêmio await a decision from Carlos Vinicius and his camp on a new deal. His contract runs to December 2026 and the club have offered terms through 2028.

He recently rejected América of Mexico, while Série A and MLS clubs have made enquiries.

Signed last July after leaving Fulham, he quickly won over supporters, scoring 12 in 14 under Mano Menezes to December.

Despite the dip, he sits third in this year’s league scoring on 10, behind Athletico’s Viveros with 16 and Flamengo’s Pedro with 15.
