Carrick hit with team selection headache after Luckhurst confirms one Red is poised to return to Man Utd squad vs Spurs

Manchester United have set a provisional date of October 10 for Amad Diallo to make his first appearance of the season.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, United are hoping the forward will be deemed match-fit in time for their first game back after the international break.

The clash against Tottenham Hotspur, who are winless after their opening five matches and sit 20th in the Premier League table, is a golden opportunity for United to kick on and build some momentum.

Fixtures are coming thick and fast when club action resumes, with United now having to prepare for six outings in October, two of which are in the Champions League.

Alas, having Amad back at Michael Carrick’s disposal will come as a major boost for the manager while he is once again tasked with steadying the ship after a turbulent month.

Amad has been sidelined since he sustained an ankle injury during pre-season training.

He did feature prominently last term, however, having made 32 league appearances in total and 27 as a starter.

Carrick would be well within his rights to demand more from the 24-year-old, though, as he returned only two goals and four assists in 2,346 minutes on the pitch.

The reintegration of Marcus Rashford means a starting spot now isn’t guaranteed for Amad, and he will have to work to nail down a place in the XI.

While the Ivorian returning to the fold is a welcome update for supporters, it comes after United have already been hit with a potentially huge injury blow.

Patrick Dorgu was withdrawn after 29 minutes with a non-contact injury during Denmark’s Nations League encounter against Wales, and he has exited his nation’s camp to report back to Carrington so his condition can be assessed.
