Carrick Njinko: We are really happy to get the win | OneFootball

Leeds United Under-21s kickstarted their Premier League 2 season with a dramatic 4-3 victory over West Bromwich Albion Under-21s.

Netting his first ever goals for Scott Gardner’s side was Carrick Njinko, whose superbly taken hattrick helped the Whites to a memorable win.

Chatting with LUTV after the game, the forward couldn’t hide his delight, saying: “It was a good game. We wanted to start the season off with three points and I got a hat-trick to go with it!

“The first one had a few people in front of me but I created space to get the shot off in the bottom corner. Same with the second one, really. I had to wrap it around and keep it under players. And the last one comes from [Jacob] Render’s work, put it back to me for an easy finish.

“We are really happy to get the win, especially with the weather and how hot it is. We had to dig deep in the second half after getting the fourth goal.

“We had players injured coming off and then we had to get all our players behind the ball and secure the win for the last 10, 15 minutes.”

Discussing making the step up from the U18s, the attacker added: “It is a lot more physical, difficult, more running. You are playing against older players and it is good.

“It is good for you as well because it gives you experience and gets you ready for men’s football. Like Boreham Wood the other day, it was a difficult first half but it is valuable experience for us.”
