Carter levelled in the third minute of second half stoppage time, glancing in Ryoya Morishita's cross to the bottom left.

Brown, introduced from the bench, made an instant impact for Portsmouth with the assist, while Jacob Schmid and Balazs Toth were largely untested across a cagey game.

Four minutes of added time were indicated before the equaliser.

Portsmouth saw more of the ball with 57.2% possession and tallied 14 attempts, but hit the target only once. Blackburn produced 10 attempts and also registered one on target.

Next, Blackburn visit Oxford United. Portsmouth host Swansea City.
