Championship clubs ‘are keen’ on Bertrand Traore after Sunderland exit, North East legends plan charity event | OneFootball

Bertrand Traore is attracting Championship interest after leaving Sunderland earlier this summer. Sky Sports reports that the free agent is fully fit after a late-season injury, has rejected several offers from the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, and prefers to continue his career in England.

The Burkina Faso international joined from Ajax last summer for around £2.5m but struggled for regular minutes under Regis Le Bris.

Ahead of the final fortnight, Le Bris said that when available Traore remained in Sunderland’s plans to the last day. He did not feature in the win at Everton or the final-day victory over Chelsea as Sunderland sealed seventh and a Europa League place.

Weeks later the club chose not to trigger a one-year option in his deal, confirming his departure.

Away from transfers, North East legends will contest a Ryder Cup-style golf event marking the 30th anniversary of anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card. It takes place at Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club near Durham on Monday, August 10.

Peter Reid will captain Sunderland against Chris Hughton’s Newcastle and Viv Anderson’s Middlesbrough.

Kevin Phillips and Gary Bennett are among those lining up for Sunderland. Newcastle’s squad is set to include Dwight Gayle, Steve Howey and John Beresford, with Boro represented by Dean Gordon, Craig Hignett and Gary Pallister. Newcastle United Women will also be involved.
