Castellón football is in mourning after the death of Honorio Gómez Clavell at 63. UD Vall de Uxó said in a statement that the former forward had passed away.

Born on 22 October 1962 in Alfondeguilla, Gómez was a prolific striker and is especially remembered for his long association with UD Vall de Uxó, later serving in a sporting director role. He was the club’s member number 208.

He also played for Villarreal CF, where his goals earned him the nickname Ratón. In yellow he achieved two promotions to the now defunct Segunda División B, in 1986/1987 under Luis García Martínez, Luiche, and in 1990/1991 under José Ignacio López Sanjuán. He finished top scorer in the 1991 promotion play-offs to the third tier.

Gómez died in the early hours of Sunday 5 April 2026 at his father’s home, where he was caring for him. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause, although indications point to a heart attack.

He was set to retire on Monday after a long career at the Social Security offices in Vila-real. In 2025/2026 he served as assistant to David Pérez with UD Vall de Uxó’s reserves, and as assistant to Vicente Almela with the Benjamín C side.

His playing career spanned Vall de Uxó from 18, then Villarreal until 29, followed by Almazora, several seasons at CD Onda, plus Moncofa FC and Penya Colonia de la Vall d'Uixó. He later coached in the Villarreal academy, CD Castellón’s youth, CD Onda, Vall de Uxó, Club La Vall at youth and amateur level, and Quart de les Valls.
