Castellón’s 4-1 defeat in Gijón produced stark player ratings, with Cala on the scoresheet amid a bruising night. Camara posed problems but the visitors were well beaten.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Pablo Santiago delivered a fine set piece that led to a Camara goal being ruled out. Camara also drew a penalty and won numerous duels. He might have scored in a one-on-one on the stroke of half-time.
Belgian goalkeeper Matthys conceded four, with no heroics on his line, and looked unsure on some crosses. Mellot had an off night. Alberto was booked early and withdrawn, while Sienra returned but struggled in battles with Juan Otero, and Lucas Alcázar could not impose himself.
Gerenabarrena stood out, breaking up play and distributing well, then found himself isolated as the lone pivot as errors mounted. Diego Barri started assuredly before being overrun and replaced. Cipenga was lively on the break but lacked precision with his final ball.
Cala netted and created the best openings in tandem with Camara, while Pablo Santiago moved smartly between the lines and was the first to be substituted. Suero added energy, then Mellot was sent off soon after, changing the plan.
Raúl S. took a blow that caused bleeding and Sporting scored the 3-1 while he was on the touchline. He later went close with a header. Doué lost the ball for the final 4-1 and Brignani came on to defend in the closing stages.
