SkyFi Castalia drew more than 12,000 on Friday for CD Castellón’s penultimate regular home game against Cádiz CF, a night that ended tensely among supporters and in the directors’ box, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo.

Pre-match mood was upbeat, with Fedpecas running face painting and black and white balloons, and Fondo 1922 staging a march and street tifo. The club shop was busy with early summer discounts.

A Malco-backed contest took place at half-time. After the game an exchange of views between some home-end members and players including Mellot, Alberto and Raúl Sánchez prompted intervention from president Haralabos Voulgaris.

Voulgaris attended and had joined mascot Oscar in the squad photo on Thursday. In the box were the president of the Diputación, Marta Barrachina, Castelló mayor Begoña Carrasco, councillors, and club officials Alberto González and Ramón Soria.

The stakes were clear, with Castellón pushing high and Cádiz battling low. Around 100 travelling fans backed the visitors.

Castellón also have two former Cádiz men. Head coach Pablo Hernández had a youth loan there, and Awer Mabil also played for them and is one of the few with brief top-flight experience. Yesterday could have been Mabil’s last home game if Australia call him for the World Cup, while Cipenga is in a similar position and his deal ends this season.

Castellón visit Huesca on Sunday at 18.30, then finish at SkyFi Castalia against Eibar on the final weekend of May, time to be confirmed. They will watch rivals today. Win both and they are guaranteed a play-off.
