Álvaro Martín, CD Castellón’s first signing, has been assessed by former Castellón coach Sergi Escobar, who oversaw him at Sibenik in Croatia’s top flight in 2021.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Escobar sees Martín working in the inside-right channel, a left-footer on the right between midfield and attack, comparable to Suero or Cala. He stresses his decision-making, vision, clean strike and final pass, and that he can drop to help build.

Escobar recalls a shy arrival in a new country, then a swift rise once he hit the level. He says Croatia’s top flight was demanding, with Gvardiol and Livakovic involved, and that Martín never backed down.

Born in Ocaña, Toledo, in 2001, he joined Real Madrid’s academy early and reached Castilla. He later played for Internacional de Madrid, scoring 10 goals in Primera RFEF.

His breakout came in 2022/23 under Raúl González Blanco with Castilla, playing 41 games and scoring four.

After leaving Real Madrid he joined Andorra, playing almost 100 games across Primera Federación and Segunda División over the last three seasons. Castellón have signed him for three years on a free after his contract expired, and he is 25.
