According to Globo.com, the CBF have acknowledged to Internacional that Carlos Vinicius should have been sent off in Gre-Nal 453, the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals.

Vinicius had been booked at 41 minutes after a confrontation. At 45 minutes he struck Bruno Gomes with his arm in a challenge, an action classed as illegal use of the arms and contact to the face, meriting a yellow that would have been his second.

The first leg at Beira-Rio finished 0-0. In the return at Arena do Grêmio, Carlos Vinicius scored twice in a 3-1 win that took Grêmio into the semi-finals.

The Ombudsman took 10 business days to respond to Inter’s query. The acknowledgement carries no practical effect and referee Ramon Abatti Abel will not be removed from duty.

The match on 27 August also involved assistants Thiaggo Americano Labes and Michael Stanislau, with Marco Aurelio Augusto Fazekas Ferreira in the VAR.

The Ombudsman serves as a dialogue channel for clubs, and the refereeing department does not object to recognising errors when they occur.
