CBF is weighing scheduling the postponed Brasileirão match between Flamengo and Mirassol for the second of September at the Maracanã. It wants to use the Copa do Brasil week to fit in the fourth-round fixture.
According to Globo.com, both clubs have been informed of the plan and formal confirmation on the official calendar is expected soon.
CBF had been waiting for the Libertadores fixtures to be set before weighing alternatives, but Flamengo’s qualification has confined options to Copa do Brasil dates.
In the domestic cup, Flamengo were eliminated by Vitória in the fifth round, while Mirassol went out to Grêmio in the last 16. That created the window to clear the backlog, and the reverse league meeting has already been played, Flamengo winning 5-1 last Sunday.
Security authorities have approved staging the game, with no other major sporting events in Rio de Janeiro. Vasco are the only Rio side still in the Copa do Brasil and will chase a semi-final place the same day against Vitória at Barradão, in Salvador.
Flamengo sit second in the Brasileirão on 45 points, behind Palmeiras, who have 48 and a game more. Mirassol are 17th on 23, one behind Internacional, who also have a game more.
