CD Castellón begin pre-season, Hernández’s second year starts amid squad changes | OneFootball

CD Castellón returned to work on Monday, 13 July 2026, launching pre-season at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Coma as they prepare another tilt at promotion.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Pablo Hernández begins his renewed second season with much of the squad set, though the market remains open.

In goal, academy keeper Sergi Torner is promoted after extending his deal, with Romain Matthys first choice. Amir Abedzadeh did not train and is close to leaving.

Midfielder Albert Lottin, back from a loan at União de Leiria, has not returned, pointing to an imminent departure. The club have kept their defensive base after taking up Agustín Sienra’s option.

Full-back Juanjo Nieto arrives and José Albert Andrés returns, while Salva Ruiz and Ismael Fadel have gone.

Midfield changes see Beñat Gerenabarrena and Ronaldo Pompeu depart, with Diego Barri and Marc-Olivier Doué retained. Jari Vlak, voted the Dutch second division’s best player, joins alongside Álvaro Martín and Fran Castillo.

Up front, Castellón must replace Álex Calatrava, sold to Espanyol, and Brian Cipenga to Almería. Iñigo Córdoba from Burgos and Hamza Bellari from Valencia strengthen the wings.

Awer Mabil will join later after the World Cup with Australia.

Sergio Sanchis Serpeta heads to Águilas on loan, Mamadou Traoré leaves, and Tommaso De Nipoti returns to Atalanta.

Several B-team players trained. The week ends on Saturday with a first friendly against CE Sabadell at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Coma, kick-off 19.00.
