CD Castellón enter the final days of the window with most of their work done, but late tweaks hinge on outgoings. Left-footed defender Ilias Kostis, announced on 31 July, is the latest arrival and is close to registration.

El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that only one shirt number is free, number three, vacated by Fabrizio Brignani after a long-term pre-season injury, and it is due to go to Kostis if nothing changes. Willmann, Antonio Gala and Rodrigo Rego carry B team numbers. Any new signing requires departures to free both a number and salary space.

The market is fluid and late curveballs are common. Based on early games and Pablo Hernández’s squads, Douglas Aurélio, Tincho, Suero or José Albert could depart in the coming days. The window closes on Tuesday one September at 23.59, and if room is created the priority is a versatile holding midfielder who can also cover in defence.

Late August offers could change the picture. Ousmane Camara, contracted until June 2029, has interest, including from clubs newly relegated from Primera División, but none has met Castellón’s demands. The club do not intend to sell unless an irresistible bid arrives.

Castellón recruited early, and before facing CE Sabadell at SkyFi Castalia the head coach praised the planning. Planning months in advance for promotion or continuity secured free agents with strong Segunda pedigree, notably Álvaro Martín and Iñigo Córdoba.

The club also kept mining Primera RFEF, now seeking returns from Fran Castillo, Hamza Bellari and Kostis. The key task is replacing creators Álex Calatrava and Brian Cipenga. Calatrava’s sale was highly favourable and, with interest owed by Espanyol, will exceed the five million clause. Cipenga left for nothing after rejecting a new deal, but the Calatrava income, the biggest sale in the club’s history, has been and will be reinvested.
