CD Castellón are poised to confirm their first January departures, with defender Óscar Gil and forward Nick Markanich close to leaving. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, both exits are nearing confirmation.
Gil arrived in the first year of the Voulgaris era and has played at centre-back and holding midfield. A 2024 promotion winner, he made 67 outings in his first two Primera RFEF seasons, then 20 last term, and signed a new deal soon after turning 30.
This season he has barely featured, three appearances including one in the Copa del Rey. Across four seasons he has 90 official games.
With more than 100 Segunda appearances for Bilbao Athletic, Real Oviedo, Amorebieta and Castellón, the Lezama graduate is among the squad’s most experienced and is a dressing-room captain. Respected internally, he extended despite richer offers, but now seeks minutes that, unless something changes, will come in Primera RFEF with Real Murcia.
Markanich, 26, joined last winter after impressing in his country’s second tier. He scored two important goals in the second half of last season at SkyFi Castalia, earning draws with Albacete and Eldense, the latter sealing survival.
This season he has 261 minutes without a goal and 25 official appearances overall. His exit could be a loan. The club would free salary-cap room for additions, and president Bob Voulgaris has said departures are needed before registrations given the tight limit.
