According to Meu Timao, Corinthians will not renew Memphis Depay’s contract, a decision led by president Osmar Stabile, whose personal data were leaked online, including address, CPF and phone number. The confirmation triggered an immediate backlash from supporters.
Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to oppose the move on Tuesday, and Osmar Stabile’s name was among the most searched. In recent days the hashtag #ForaStabile has been widely shared.
His contact number circulated in WhatsApp groups. The president blocked the senders.
Pressure on Stabile predates this episode. Gaviões da Fiel have met him several times seeking greater transparency, while SAFiel’s bid to take control of the club’s football has been ignored by the president.
Before the Depay announcement, Gaviões president Alexandre Domenico said next week would bring a large wave of protests at Parque São Jorge. He said the aim was to pressure Stabile and oversight bodies Cori (Conselho de Orientação) and CD (Conselho Deliberativo).
Depay used his X account to express dissatisfaction with the decision. He said he would address the matter soon and would not let what he described as unacceptable behaviour go unpunished.
The forward arrived in Brazil last week to complete final formalities and medical tests intended to secure his stay at Parque São Jorge.
Owing to the talks, Stabile did not travel with the Corinthians delegation to Argentina. The team play Rosario Central in their first Libertadores knockout tie on Thursday at 21:30 at the Gigante de Arroyito.
