CD Castellón are set to sign 21-year-old midfielder Gaizka Alboniga-Menor after his time at Athletic Club came to an end.

According to Onda Vasca, the move is framed as one for the future, with the player to train with the first team while gaining minutes for Castellón B in Segunda Federación.

Born in Artea, Bizkaia, on 14 March 2005, Alboniga-Menor had been at Lezama since youth level. Athletic confirmed his departure in May.

He is noted for late runs from midfield and a regular goal threat. In 2025/26 he played 23 times for Basconia in Segunda Federación, scoring six. The year before he hit six in 32 in Tercera Federación.

He also stepped up to Bilbao Athletic in Primera Federación last season, featuring in two matches. Across three campaigns with Basconia he totalled 14 goals, after netting nine in 32 league games in his final youth year.

Castellón are again tapping Lezama, replicating the blueprint that worked with Beñat Gerenabarrena last term.

The midfielder arrived on loan in summer 2025, played 39 games for Castellón, scored two and assisted two, then returned to Bilbao to claim a first-team squad number for 2026/27.
