Celso Barros honoured at the Laranjeiras Grand Hall

The wake of former sponsor and presidential candidate of Fluminense, Celso Barros, took place on Sunday morning in the Noble Hall of Laranjeiras. Former players, family members, and friends were present to pay their last respects and bid farewell to Celso Barros. Fluminense declared an official three-day mourning period and offered the space to the family for the wake.

“Celso was a great tricolor, who had immense love and played a significant role for the club during one of the most challenging times in its history. It is a sad day for all of us, as we have lost someone who was decisive for the institution. We are very grateful for everything he did. We have made and will continue to make tributes,” said president Mário Bittencourt.

Celso Barros was the president of Unimed when the institution took over as the main sponsor of Fluminense in 1999, saving the club from its most difficult moment in history, when it was in the third division. During this period, the tricolor won two Brazilian Championship titles and one Copa do Brasil.
