Celta Vigo have reached an agreement with Porto for goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín.
The Galician club confirmed the news on Monday as they prepare to add the 34-year-old to their squad for the 2022-23 campaign.
“RC Celta and FC Porto have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Argentine goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin. Once the player has passed the relevant medical, he will sign his contract with the club,” the club said on social media.
The experienced shot-stopper arrives with the intention of covering for the departures of Matias Dituro and Ruben Blanco. He joined Porto in the summer of 2019 and managed to be a starter in his first two seasons with the Portuguese giants before losing his starting place for the 2021-22 season to Portuguese youngster Diogo Costa.
At Porto, Agustin played 93 games, keeping 45 clean sheets and conceding 78 goals. He was sent off twice in his three seasons.
Celta were close to signing Neto from Barcelona as they looked for a new goalkeeper but it is Machesín who will join the club before the start of the new season.
