Mouctar Diakhaby underwent hamstring surgery this morning after being injured against Celta de Vigo. The operation was successful and he faces four to six months out, effectively ending his season.
According to AS, Valencia’s medical staff and the Guinea international opted for the procedure, which was carried out by orthopaedic surgeon Ignacio Muñoz Criado under the supervision of Dr Pedro López, head of the club’s medical services. The centre-back will remain in hospital for the next few hours.
He had been sidelined from October to December, then on Saturday 5 January in Vigo he suffered another setback. He completed 90 minutes but felt issues from the opening stages. Tests on Monday confirmed a hamstring injury and further tests on Wednesday, once the bleeding had reduced, revealed a significant tear.
It continues a difficult run with injuries. He underwent knee surgery in March 2024 and, despite accelerating his rehabilitation, he spent a year without playing. This season his muscle problems have held him back.
The setback leaves Carlos Corberán’s defence short and heightens Valencia’s need to recruit a centre-back in January. As a long-term injury, it allows the club to submit a medical report to LaLiga so that, under article 107 of its Financial Fair Play rules, they can allocate 40% of Diakhaby’s salary to a replacement.
