According to Daily Record, the Hoops’ B team skipper has reached an agreement to link up with David Martindale’s side.

The commanding young centre-back is currently gaining valuable minutes on loan with Inverness Caledonian Thistle in League One. Although the transfer has effectively been lined up, the 20-year-old is expected to see out the campaign in the Highlands before officially completing his move at the end of the season.

It is understood Celtic and the West Lothian club have structured the deal to include performance-related clauses and future incentives, allowing Robertson to secure his longer-term pathway. The young defender is keen to accelerate his development through consistent senior football at the highest level available, with further game time at Inverness set to aid his progress in the short term.

Livingston are locked in a tense battle to avoid the drop, trailing Kilmarnock and St Mirren by eight and four points respectively as the season reaches a critical stage.

Meanwhile, Celtic have opened initial discussions to explore the possibility of signing West Ham striker Callum Wilson, according to Anthony Joseph at Sky Sports. The Scottish champions are understood to be assessing whether the England international would be open to a switch to Glasgow, with competition also emerging from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Pro League.

An update on this, as expected it appears that Callum Wilson will be heading to Saudi Arabia and not next Park or indeed the multiple other destinations in the English Premier League that have already been mentioned.

Mike McGrath, football reporter at The Telegraph has posted an update within the last half hour on Callum Wilson’s next move which effectively reduces any Celtic interest to background noise. He writes:

“Al-Shabab to offer Callum Wilson deal but there is other Saudi and UAE interest in West Ham forward. Talks over contract termination and could travel next week to Middle East. The 33 year-old has Premier League interest but set to explore foreign move…”

Celtic didn’t even merit a mention.

Martin O’Neill is keen to strengthen his attacking options during the current transfer window after injuries sidelined Kelechi Iheanacho (who is now back on the grass) and Callum Osmand, leaving Johnny Kenny as the only recognised centre-forward currently available.

Daizen Maeda has been deployed in a makeshift striker ever since Kyogo left nearly a year ago – and he still hasn’t been replaced. It appears with all the links to strikers, the club remain keen to secure an additional forward before the window closes.

Wilson, 33, has featured 18 times across all competitions this campaign and has found the net on four occasions for the Hammers. As per Sky, Celtic have already lodged a preliminary enquiry as they weigh up a potential approach for the experienced frontman but amid significant interest it was always going to be a long-shot and so it has turned out with the latest news reported above.

But it seems Celtic are not accelerating things. A striker should’ve been brought in long ago and the board gambled on games against Dundee United and Falkirk. What would they have done without O’Neill?
