Celtic are closing in on the signature of Haissem Hassan. The Egyptian winger caught the attention of many in the course of the FIFA World Cup but it appears that Celtic have been tracking him since the January transfer window.

According to Spanish outlet El Comercio, Celtic are close to finalising the deal for Hassan for €6m plus add-ons worth €2m.

The report suggests that there have been a number of teams interested in Hassan but the early interest from Celtic looks as if it has swayed the decision to come to Glasgow. It also looks like Hassan is a player that Celtic have scouted for some period as they look to bolster their attacking options.

This represents a bargain for Celtic below the release clause from Real Oviedo. The Spanish side are keen to maximise the value for the winger but are realistic that with a year remaining on his deal, they risk losing him for a free.

Martin O’Neill has already added Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh to his squad, adding strength to the forward line but wide options look thin on the ground at the moment. Jota is back training but looks some distant away from returning.

Celtic are needing further reinforcements ahead of the UEFA Champions League Playoff against LASK. A left back, a goalkeeper and midfielders are required to refresh the squad to bolster Martin’s options.
