CELTIC’S SCOTTISH CUP FINAL VICTORIES – Number 36…

CELTIC 3-0 HIBS – HAMPDEN, 26 MAY 2013 – The authorities in their wisdom decided that this game should be played on a Sunday, and that Celtic should play in black, so in some ways, this was a most unusual Scottish Cup final. It was however a fairly comfortable win in the Hampden sun to complete a League and Cup double.

Gary Hooper had not always been in top form for Celtic that year, but today he scored a couple of fine goals in the first half, and might even had scored a hat-trick but it was Joe Ledley who finished the job to win the Scottish Cup for Celtic for the 36th time. Fortunately Celtic once again changed out of that black rubbish into the green and white hoops to pick up the trophy.

The Celtic manager believes the financial demise of rivals Rangers has overshadowed his side’s achievements.

“People have nipped away at what we’ve done over the years, the tainted titles, no competition,” he said “And they’ve missed what’s really on the pitch. We’ve got a really special young team here. That’s four trophies in three years. Martin O’Neill did that, so I’m happy with that. To emulate what he did in his first three years is pretty special to me.

“They should get the respect they deserve now because they’ve been fantastic,” Lennon told BBC Scotland. They’ve been at the sharp end all season – this is their 59th game – and they looked as fresh as daisies.”

Celtic win Scottish Cup for 36th time to achieve a league and cup double. Lennon becomes third Celt after Stein and McNeil to win domestic league and cup double both as manager and player for the club.

First domestic Scottish match to employ officials behind the goals. They have been used in European competition in recent seasons.

Celtic designated the ‘away’ team and therefore wore the all-black away kit. Paddy McCourt subbed on for last few minutes and awarded the captain’s armband.

First cup winners medals for Wilson, Lustig, Ambrose, Ledley and Rogic.

European Cup final the night before between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium London, Bayern win 2-1. Tenth anniversary of Celtic in UEFA Cup final passed on 21st May; ironically Porto manager from that day (Jose Mourinho) was fired from/mutually left his current job as Real Madrid manager the night before despite some great achievements with them (not very popular with the very greedy fans there).
