Celtic v Dundee – Scorers in consecutive seasons

Article image:Celtic v Dundee – Scorers in consecutive seasons

The year 1318 hardly stands out as one of the most significant in world history, although those interested in the Scottish Wars of Independence may be interested in some events.

But for Celtic this season, the numbers 13 and 18 could yet have real significance, not least the latter number.

As we enter season 2026-27, Callum McGregor and James Forrest have their own scoring records to beat, and in Forrest’s case, it would make club history.

So far, Callum McGregor has managed to score in 12 consecutive seasons for the Celts. This puts him level with 1960s legends John Hughes and Stevie Chalmers, as well as Adam Mclean, a popular Celt in the World War One era.

Should McGregor score this season – which is hopefully just a matter of when, rather than if – it will move him onto 13 seasons, level with Jimmy Johnstone and Sandy McMahon.

This would make him joint tenth in Celtic’s overall records.

But for James Forrest, an even bigger achievement awaits.

The Ayrshire winger is currently in joint second place in Celtic’s records (along with Bobby Lennox) having scored in 17 successive seasons.

A goal this year would take him onto 18, level with Celtic hero Jimmy McMenemy. It would be yet another accolade for Forrest, who has already written himself into club legend.

Celtic’s transfer activity has eventually got going and there are different new faces available for selection by Martin O’Neill.

But hopefully some well-known faces can also get on the scoresheet too.

Tonight would be a great time for these famous Celts to reach 13 and 18 – and make history at the same time.

So come on Calmac and Jamesy, let’s get those goals as early as possible preferably this evening.

While it’s certainly possible it is perhaps more likely that the Dundee defence will have more to worry them with both Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran both making their competitive debuts for Celtic this evening and no doubt starting a personal race to be Celtic’s top scorer this season. Both will be desperate to hit the back of the net this evening and you wouldn’t bet against it.
