Celtic handed massive injury boost as star set to return early

Celtic have been handed a massive boost to morale with the news that Alistair Johnston has returned to training. The mood around the Scottish Champions has been low due to the UCL exit, underwhelming transfer window and subsequent off key performances.

Celtic supporters will meet with the club on Monday to discuss getting matters back on track and aligning the support and the club once more. Whilst these discussions will take place about issues off the pitch, Brendan Rodgers and his team must address their stuttering performances on the pitch.

One issue that the manager has had this season has been the necessity to play a makeshift right side with Alistair Johnston out and Nicholas Kühn not replaced. The two were lethal last season and have been a big miss.

As reported by Sun Sport, Canada boss Jesse Marsch has revealed that Johnston is back training – albeit individually – as he seeks an early return from a hamstring injury.

“Alistair is already starting to get on the pitch and do some individual work.

“And that should bode well for him potentially making an early return and being available for our games in November.”

It remains to be seen whether Celtic would permit the player to leave for friendlies if he has just returned from injury, especially considering the number of ‘big games’ coming up. The focus will be the Premier Sports Cup Semi Final against Rangers at Hampden.

The fullback has been instrumental in the club’s success over the last three years and will be eager to continue that upon his return. The absence of Johnston has been felt given his attacking qualities; however, the emergence of Colby Donovan has been pleasing.
