Celtic are in advanced talks to sign former Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to Sky Sports.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill revealed earlier this week that he wants the Englishman at the Parkhead club, and the Hoops are advancing in negotiations to bring him to the Scottish Premiership.

The Bhoys are confident of signing Oxlade-Chamberlain and a medical could take place before the end of the day.

The Celtic target has been training at Arsenal for a while and is still at their training ground as of this morning.

Oxlade-Chamberlain brings much-needed experience and quality to the table, and Celtic could do with such a huge player going forward.

They are challenging Hearts and Rangers for the Premiership title and adding the 32-year-old to their midfield will be a big boost.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has plenty of suitors as he is a free agent after his Besiktas contract was terminated last year, and pipping competition to his services is huge for Celtic.

While he is currently not match-fit, the midfielder has featured for Arsenal and their under-21s in behind-closed-doors friendly games, playing against Watford and the Manchester United under-21s in December.

Celtic are also hoping to impress in the Europa League, and having a player like Oxlade-Chamberlain in their squad could boost their chances of going far this season.

The Hoops will face VfB Stuttgart in the playoffs for the knockout stage of the Europa League later this month, and advancing to the round-of-16 at the expense of the Bundesliga club will be great.

O’Neill signed Tomas Cvancara, Julian Araujo, Junior Adamu, Joel Mvuka, and Benjamin Arthur from Borussia Monchengladbach, Bournemouth, SC Freiburg, Lorient and Brentford, respectively, on loan during the winter transfer window.

He wants Oxlade-Chamberlain and it appears the deal could get over the line in the coming days.
