The 22-year-old entered the final year of his Anfield contract this summer and had been expected to leave, only for Liverpool to retain him as versatile defensive cover following a lack of reinforcements.

However, a winter departure could now be on the cards, with journalist Alan Nixon reporting that Celtic view Chambers as a “long-term project” and are among several clubs interested in securing his signature.

Championship sides are also believed to be monitoring the defender, while a loan move appears unlikely given his contract situation. Liverpool are instead reportedly prepared to sanction a permanent exit in January.

Chambers, who can operate at left-back or centre-back but prefers the former role, has been with Liverpool since the age of six and made his senior debut against Leicester City in the EFL Cup in 2023.

He has since gained valuable first-team experience during loan spells with Kilmarnock, Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic, taking his overall tally to 74 senior appearances.

Celtic’s reported interest comes after left-back was identified as an area requiring reinforcement throughout the summer following Marcelo Saracchi’s departure.

The Hoops eventually brought in Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo on a season-long loan after his arrival was delayed by injury. His Blues teammate Shim Mheuka also moved to Parkhead on loan during the closing stages of the window.

A return for former Celt Greg Taylor was also explored, but PAOK were unwilling to sanction his departure, with new boss Alessio Lisci reportedly viewing the Scotland international as an option in midfield.
