Celtic opt for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over Tiémoué Bakayoko

Celtic, the Scottish champions, have opted for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rather than Tiémoué Bakayoko.

According to L'Équipe, Bakayoko was close to agreeing an 18-month deal in recent hours before the club chose the former England international instead.

Bakayoko, 31, has been without a club for six months after leaving PAOK Salonika last summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, also a free agent since last summer following his Besiktas exit, is undergoing a medical on Thursday. The 32-year-old has 35 England caps.

He had recently been training at Arsenal’s facilities, the club he represented from 2011 to 2017.
