Celtic should be exploring a £3m move for Kieron Bowie says Peter Grant

Peter Grant believes Celtic should be exploring a move for Kieron Bowie, suggesting a deal in the region of £3 million would represent smart business…

The former Hoops midfielder argues that Celtic have too often overlooked domestic prospects, despite several players at Scottish Premiership clubs emerging as standout performers in the league.

Bowie has been highlighted as one such example, with the robust Hibernian forward scoring seven times this season and already earning recognition at international level with Scotland.

Although Grant was initially asked whether the 23-year-old might be on the radar of the Ibrox club, he instead put forward Bowie as a player who could fit Celtic’s current striker problems.

Speaking via Go Radio Football Show, Grant said: “I watched him at Raith as a young man. He was like a big drink of water. He was very thin. That’s the way he was. He just needed to fill out. The injury helped him with that because he went to Fulham, then it was Northampton he went to. He started scoring more goals.”

“I watched him in Europe this season. I thought he was excellent against experienced players away from home. He played a fantastic match. He was bumping them. He was taking the ball in really well.”

“He went off the boil. He lost a bit of form recently because he had an injury again and was coming back in and out of the team. But he kept going and scored a wonder goal the other week there. I just think he’s going to get better.”

“If I was Celtic I would take him as well. There is no doubt in my mind about that because I think he’s only going to get better.”

When questioned how much he thinks Celtic would need to pay for Bowie, Grant responded: “At this moment in time, I don’t think Hibs would sell him unless you were offering them £6 million.”

“You would pay £3m for him. That’s what you’d pay. You’d pay £3m and if they went above that say ‘okay, not just at this moment then.’ You’d pay £3m and then hopefully he’s going to come and score goals for you and you’d treble your money.”

Hopefully Kieron Bowie can put himself in the shop window today by scoring the winner in the Edinburgh Derby ahead of Celtic’s match away to Livingston.
