Celtic have brought in Brentford centre-back Benjamin Arthur on a loan deal that will run through to the end of the campaign. There is no option to buy within the deadline day deal…

The Hoops secured the move just before Monday’s transfer deadline, strengthening their defensive options for the final months of the season. The arrangement is a simple loan agreement, with no purchase clause included.

Celtic confirmed the loan signing late last night posting on X the news:

‘We are delighted to announce the signing of Benjamin Arthur on loan from Brentford until the end of the season, subject to international clearance. Welcome to Celtic, Benjamin!’

The 20-year-old has already tasted first-team football for Brentford, featuring in their League Cup victory against Aston Villa earlier this term. Arthur has also been capped by England at under-20 level during his young career.

Speaking via Celtic’s official website about the deal, Martin O’Neill said: “I’m really happy that we have brought Benjamin to the club, and I think he can be a very important addition to our squad during the remainder of the season.”

“He is an excellent player, with real attributes, good height, strength and speed and I know he can only help and improve the squad across the number of games which we will face over the next few months.”

Benjamin Arthur added: “I am really honoured and happy to be joining Celtic. It is one of the world’s biggest clubs, so it’s a really exciting move for me.”

“I know we have a quality squad with guys who have won so much already, and I can’t wait to join them and hopefully play my part in bringing more success to the club and to our fans.”

“We have a lot of challenges ahead and I am ready for them and ready to do all I can to help the club achieve all it can.”

Celtic completed their January business by adding Joel Mvuka late last night despite there being speculation that a deal had fallen through due to a medical issue that Celtic should have been aware of had they done even the most basic of internet searches.

The deal eventually went through because it was changed from a £3m purchase to a loan with an option to buy in the summer, when Mvuka’s medical issue is still going to be a factor surely?

Mvuka joins Arthur, Tomas Cvancara, Julian Araujo and Junior Adamu who have all joined the Scottish champions on loan deals until the end of the season.

Next up for Celtic is a trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen tomorrow evening in what is a must win match in the Scottish Premiership. Meanwhile current league leaders Hearts are at St Mirren this evening.
