Celtic Switch Gears, ‘Want To Buy’ Swedish Star, Bid Being Prepared | OneFootball

Celtic are set to make a big push to sign Swedish goalkeeper Leo Cavallius before the window closes, but face competition from Italian side Parma.

The Bhoys have been scouring the market to bring in another goalkeeper and appeared to be targeting someone who could become the new number 1.

There has been interest in a host of shot-stoppers, including Las Palmas’ Dinko Horkas, but Celtic have been unwilling to meet his price tag.

Now it appears Celtic will switch gears and focus on a younger goalkeeper with 21-year-old Cavallius fitting the bill.

The custodian is on the books at Swedish side Brommapojkarna, where he has established himself in the team, with 16 league outings so far during the ongoing Allsvenskan season.

According to Swedish daily Expressen, Celtic ‘want to buy the goalkeeper’ and are ready to make a bid before the transfer window closes.

They are not alone in being ready to bid, with Italian side Parma also set to follow Celtic into the fray for Cavallius.

Parma recently sold Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to Paris Saint-Germain and want to bring in a new promising shot-stopper, with Cavallius fitting the bill.

Brommapojkarna are not keen on selling the goalkeeper in the middle of the Swedish season and it is suggested it will take an attractive offer for them to cash in.

Cavallius though is likely to find the prospect of a move to either Celtic or Parma to be hugely appealing.

The shot-stopper has kept a single clean sheet so far this season in the Allsvenskan, while he also saved one penalty.

Landing a new goalkeeper will be a priority for Celtic in the closing weeks of the window, with Viljami Sinisalo the current number 1 following the retirement of Kasper Schmeichel.

Celtic are picking up the pace in the transfer market and completed the capture of midfielder Mika Baur on Thursday.

They are expected to now sell Arne Engels, with a fee having been agreed with West Ham and a medical scheduled.

The Bhoys have responded to last summer’s criticism about slow business and are preparing for their Champions League playoff round tie with LASK Linz.
