Ferencvaros will arrive at Celtic Park in confident mood after cruising to a 7-0 victory ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash.

Celtic have little time to recover from Sunday’s damaging 3-0 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox, with Martin O’Neill’s side beginning their European campaign at Parkhead just four days later.

While O’Neill faces scrutiny over his team selection and Celtic’s performance in the derby, Ferencvaros enjoyed considerably smoother preparations by dismantling third-tier Debreceni EAC in the Hungarian Cup.

New signing Matúš Bero marked his competitive debut with a hat-trick, including two goals inside the opening eight minutes.

Ferencvaros boss Attila Szalai insists attention has now immediately switched towards Celtic.

He said via Daily Record: “We are preparing for a big test of strength for us when we play Celtic this week. We’ll now fully concentrate on the Europa League match in Glasgow.

“It’s important we give everything in every match we play and we asked our players to treat this Cup game like a big match in Europe.

“And we dominated from the beginning when we took an early lead. Our new signing, Matus Bero, scored a hat trick for us on his debut from midfield and you could see everyone was working hard for the team’s success.

“We also managed to get Habib Maiga and Adam Madarasz minutes after both were injured long term, so it was a really good day for us.”

Ferencvaros also arrive with considerable European experience already under their belts this season. The Hungarian side have navigated eight qualifiers against Vojvodina, Twente, Gornik Zabrze and Trabzonspor without suffering a defeat.
