Three points for the Scottish champions would ensure a knockout playoff round two-legged tie in February against a team finishing between 9th and 24th in the elongated new UEFA Champions League format.
Indeed, a Celtic victory would seal a knockout place in Europe’s elite club competition for the first time in 13 years. Brendan Rodgers’ side would then have a chance at progressing to the last 16 in a month’s time.

Meanwhile, BSC Young Boys travel to Glasgow’s east end in a dismal position. Mathematically unable to reach those elusive top 24 spots, after six games the Swiss titleholders sit on zero points and bottom of the table having conceded 22 goals [the worst record in the competition].

Now, Japanese winger Daizen Maeda reckons Celtic will have to perform a whole lot better than they did against Kilmarnock in their Scottish Cup fourth round encounter on Saturday if they want to reach the 12-point mark.
He said: “Well, if we play against Young Boys the way we did on Saturday, then it will be very difficult for us,” as reported in Daily Record. “If we have these opportunities, we need to convert them to goals. The next game is the most important for us, of course. We need to recover well from the weekend and prepare for this next one.”

“We need to try to get a good result – and to make history. We know what is necessary and we will be going for the win.”
Celtic remain undefeated at home in the competition this season with wins over Slovan Bratislava and RB Leipzig — both whom like BSC Young Boys have failed to gain any points in the Champions League across the six games. The Hoops know that they must-win tomorrow evening in order to settle any nerves before a trip to Villa Park next week.
Maeda explained: “There have been some good performances here so far. But I think we’ll be able to say after this game whether we feel our home form in the competition has been good or bad.”

“Right now, we just have to focus on this one. You can say Young Boys cannot qualify but that means they have nothing to lose.”
“That is dangerous. They can come here and give 100 percent. We cannot allow ourselves to be comfortable. We have to perform like we are the challengers rather than think about how they will be treating us.”
