Celtic v Ferencvaros: team news, referee details, KO time & where to watch | OneFootball

Celtic face Ferencvaros in their UEFA Europa League opener on Thursday night. Martin O’Neill’s side can attempt to dispel negative feeling after Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup exit to Rangers at Ibrox with a result against the Hungarian side.

The Hoops have faced the Hungarians on three occasions, once in 2020 before twice in the Europa League the following season under Ange Postecoglou, in which Celtic won in the 3pm midweek kickoff before winning the return fixture in Budapest.

Team News

Camilo Duran is fit after missing training due to a visa trip to London. The Colombian will start but it remains to see whether he will start through the middle or off the right.

Expect a change in goals with Vil Sinisalo returning ahead of Sam Johnstone.

A backline of Colby Donovan, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and potentially Liam Scales at left back, if Kieran Tierney is to be rested for Sunday. Chelsea loanee Emenalo remains injured.

You would expect Oliver Sorensen to come into the team and offer more strength to the midfield with Callum McGregor and perhaps Mika Baur.

Duran, Hogh and Tounetki were all ineffectual against Rangers and they’ll hope for more of an impact. James Forrest may start as well.

There is an argument that there’s a change of shape to incorporate two strikers, perhaps a 3-5-2 but it remains to be seen whether MON will sign off on this.

Winger Yang is on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Games.

Central midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is suspended – his last game absent following a sending off at Besiktas. Meanwhile, Dutch midfielder Joel van den Berg and on-loan Chelsea forward Shim Mheuka are not in Celtic’s Europa League squad. Jota is yet to return to fitness and is not in the squad.

Referee Details

Croatian referee Patrik Kolarić will take charge of Celtic’s Europa League opener against Ferencváros. The 31-year-old will referee his first Europa League main-stage match.

Luka Pajić and Ivan Starčević are assistants, Dario Bel fourth official, with Mario Zebec on VAR and Jan Boterberg assisting.
