Celtic and Rangers are set to face off again just days after their last meeting, this time in a Scottish Premiership showdown on Sunday at Celtic Park.
Celtic arrive with a flawless league record so far this season, having won all six of their Scottish Premiership games to sit top of the table. Despite that domestic dominance, the past week has been difficult for the Hoops. They were beaten 3-0 by Rangers in the League Cup quarter-finals and then lost 3-1 at home to Ferencváros in their first UEFA Europa League group match in midweek.
There is some positive team news for manager Martin O’Neill ahead of the Old Firm clash. Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back in the squad for domestic duty after missing the midweek European game because of suspension.
However, Martin O’Neill still has to assess several players who picked up knocks during the intense Europa League fixture, with their fitness to be decided late.
Even with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return, Celtic remain badly hit by absences. Winger Yang Hyun-jun is still away on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Games and will not feature.
Defender Alistair Johnston is out with a hamstring problem, while young midfielder Callum Osmand remains sidelined by an ankle injury. Long-term casualties London Emenalo and Jota, who is still rehabilitating from a serious knee issue, are both completely unavailable for selection.
Possible Celtic starting XI: Johnstone; Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Scales; McGregor, Baur; Hassan, Nygren, Duran; Hogh
The match will kick off at 12pm BST on Sunday, 20th September.
For supporters in the United Kingdom, the match will be shown live on Sky Sports.
