During Spain’s golden era in international football between the years of 2008 and 2012, Pepe Reina and Cesc Fabregas were teammates. Together, they helped La Roja win one World Cup and two European Championship. 12 years on from that last success, they will be re-united at club level, albeit in a different dynamic.

Fabregas is now a coach, and he’s effectively in charge of newly-promoted Serie A side Como. They’re about to close the signing of Pau Lopez from Marseille, and according to Sky Sport (via Diario AS), Reina will be brought in as backup, following his release from Villarreal at the start of this month.

Lopez and Reina are unlikely to be the only Spanish players to join Como this summer. Alberto Moreno, who was also released by Villarreal at the end of his contract, is to join in the coming days (via MD), while Marca say that Como are hoping to agree a deal for Real Betis’ Rodri Sanchez next week.

There’ll be a certain Spanish flare in next season’s Como squad, and Fabregas will hope that it is enough to help them survive in Serie A.
